would it sound just as good as a real fender strat? im trying to get that jimi hendrix tone.

no, the wood gives the tone of the guitar different quality so you'll get close but not there, just save up man.......

Scott, your thoughts about the Tele are good; it's an extremely versatile guitar, but may not have the "look" you might want for the group. If I can, I'd like to suggest you check out both Ibanez and Washburn guitars. They are a great value for the money, and many models in both lines would fit well into your budget. There are many options to choose from, and I'm sure that you can find a sound you'll like. For the money you would spend on either make, you wouldn't find the craftsmanship in another guitar unless you spent twice the cash. One word, though: you HAVE to check these axes out in person. Like any guitar, you don't know what you're getting, feel-wise or play-wise unless you sit down and riff a little. Happy Trails.

If you want the "true" sound from any guitar, it's gotta be the real thing. You might get close, but that's about it.
