She is in the 2nd grade and already wants to quit. I asked her what she wanted to do, join the circus. She said no, go to daycare.
Now is this not about right? She wants me to pay someone to watch her, instead of going to a free school.
Maybe I ought to join the circus..........

If this line of talk persists with her, I would consider having a little one-on-one talk with her teachers. There may be a problem at school that is causing her reluctance to be there. Could be the difficulty of the lessons, a stricter approach than she's been used to in 1st grade or daycare, other children, a number of possibilities. Has she had exposure to others (older siblings, cousins, other relatives, neighborhood kids) that she might have heard them talking about getting out of school. Children are very impressionable at that age and can misconstrue the meanings of others actions. Just try talking to her, ask her directly why she wants to quit. Parenting would be easier if there weren't children involved! Get your daughter to open up to you, her friend. Good Luck.

Don't we all have times when we'd like to chuck it all and just play??? That's probably all that's going on here.

I would sit her down and have a conversation about why learning is important. Then ask her if she's having difficulty at school. Address any problems and help her work through them.

The last thing you want to do is give her the impression that learning is optional. But you do want to show understanding. Tell her that there are some days you don't want to do things, too.

I would wonder what is really going on. You could go to class and ask the teacher, maybe someone is being mean to her.
Joining the circus won't work as they will find you anyway.

I say question her as to why she wants to quit school already.
maybe there is some bullying going on already and so she sees quitting as a way of avoiding it.
if not that maybe theres just something else about school that bothers her and makes her not want to go.
talk to her and let her know things will get better.

just be firm with her "you are going to school and thats that!!" or something along those lines, or threaten her with taking away something that she really likes hehe, this usually gets them doing what you want them to. It's sad but sometimes being firm is doing whats best for them. she's only young and doesnt really understand the importance of going to school and getting an education, she will appreciate you pushing her to go to school once she starts getting older and more mature.

Excuse me, but who's running the show here? YOU or Your daughter? I think the parent should be in control...what about you? She's obviously hearing things from other children. That their siblings go to daycare & maybe have "sleep" time. Does she have a younger sibling that goes to daycare?

There are many things that go into a childs' mind to make them think.!!

Maybe you should try a better public school or a private school. I got very bored in public school when I was little because it wasnt challenging enough. My mom sent me to a private school and it was much better. Trust me, theres a big difference between private and public
