Growing up in the Southeastern USA in the sixties and seventies I was witness to a lot of the prejuduce of the era. In particular the presence of the Ku Klux Klan of which realy was the domain of the higher educated and not the ignorant. To me it showed that such evils are a spiritual issue and not neccassarily of education. A higher education helps to erradicate prejuduces but does not neccassarily do the heart.

Nope, unfortunately.

There are still racists and homophobes out there to perpetuate the social evils.

You have it right. Only that kind of freedom comes from the heart. And that is the only factor. And of course people who are mentally enslaved to some sort of behavior such as that as externalized unconscious insecurities transferred off on to a more vulnerable people need some sort of education so I would say yes, a higher education at the same time makes it hard for people to be led astray by others but what about the inner workings of inherited and social equilibrium's that have so embedded into their normal way of life... is there hope other than through a good education?

1.Higher education gives us knowledge and capability to aquire more knowledge so that we may work effectively ,survive and interact with the society but it does not have capability to transform us internally from selfishness, hate , ego, anger, attachment , sexuality to sacrifice for others , love , compassion, dittachment from worldly affairs. This tranformation is also not possible by following religious scriptures because reading of scriptures is also gathering of knowldge.
2. Conrollers of all Goverments , religions are highly educated peaple but still we are finding that the Governments, religions on the earth are fighting to each other, this is the clear proof that higher eduaction is not capable to make us live lovingly ,peacefull etc.
3. So, a vast difference is there between internally transformed human whose property is love ,scrifice for others, copassion, and highly educated peaple whose property is selfishness, hate, make the situation in its own favour , expert in business ie.selling the idia in its own favour,
4.To eradicate the social evils such as racism, homophobia, sexism, selfishness, individual has to tranform its own being which is possible by cleanging ourself by throwing the all beliefs, mindsets, etc with the help of witnessing our thoughts in gently closed eyes condition in alone place without involving in it for 1 hr daily .

racism and prejudice is a belief and you can't stop a true belief. example, if i was to bring 100% proof that god did not exit would you be capable of changing your belief or would you come up with a counter logic/proof/etc?
people want to believe what they want to believe regardless of fact or education. and dare i say educating people like that seems like a bad idea.

For the most part i would agree. However I think that someone's hate/prejudice can be exacerbated through education as well.

Many of those who really should know better often don't. Prejudice is found in the uneducated and the elite alike. Sad but true.
