attempted reading file from floppy produces error
"Disk in drive a:/ is not formatted"
What will happen if I attempt to use disk tools. Will it even run?
I'm asking for someone else and need 2nd, 3rd, ... opinions

well, talha might be right... or not!

if you're sure there is/was a/some file(s) on that floppy, then it should have been formatted to can write on it. and if this is the case, you should try a file recovery program to restore at least a part of your file. there are some freewares very good at this job! (see links below)

if you don't know if there has been any formatting done on the floppy disk, it might very well be that it is a brand new diskette that is not formatted yet. then go to format in the tools tab of the floppy drive properties window. choose complete, not quick! (it will scan for bad sectors too!)

scan disk or checkdisk does NOT work with (reported) not formated disks, anyway!

This error occurs because floppy is corrupted.
Floppy drivers then doesnot allow to read anything from it.
