cookies are bits of data stored on your computer by websites that when you return to that site again...
a. make it load faster
b. remember your password (optional)
c. keep you logged in.

those are the good cookies...

in some cases websites or companies use cookies to track your browsing habits to sell to agencies who use that information to more effectively market spam to people like yourself... there are called tracking cookies

in most cases there cookies are not malicious, but they are annoying to know they exist because people are cashing in on your boredom.

bottom line is cookies are good but you may want to delete them (tools, clear browsing history) every now and then but be prepared for the first day or so your sites Will load slower and you may notice you are not auto logged into some site you used to be.

A message given to a Web browser by a Web server. The browser stores the message in a text file. The message is then sent back to the server each time the browser requests a page from the server.

Also see session cookie and persistent cookie.

The main purpose of cookies is to identify users and possibly prepare customized Web pages for them. When you enter a Web site using cookies, you may be asked to fill out a form providing such information as your name and interests. This information is packaged into a cookie and sent to your Web browser which stores it for later use. The next time you go to the same Web site, your browser will send the cookie to the Web server. The server can use this information to present you with custom Web pages. So, for example, instead of seeing just a generic welcome page you might see a welcome page with your name on it.

The name cookie derives from UNIX objects called magic cookies. These are tokens that are attached to a user or program and change depending on the areas entered by the user or program.

Cookies are little files that are left on your system by websites, that let other websites (and the site that left it) know where you have been. For example, a site like MySpace leaves cookies that lets itself know that you are logged in. That way, you don't have to log in every time you need to do something that requires you to be logged in. They can also be used to track actions on your computer however. A program like Yahoo Anti-Spy will scan your computer for these "tracking" cookies. Most of them are harmless, but they can do harm. To be safe, I suggest clearing them out once or twice every month.

"Cookies" are classified as temporary Internet files originally developed by the people who developed Netscape. I know, they're annoying, but these files are used as guides by the server proxy that you're on. This feature was in the original Netscape, then caught on in other Internet browsers. However, always remember to delete your cookies since these files leave behind a "digital paper trail" that hackers can easily use to find your computer on the Internet. So remember to PLEASE use the Delete Cookies feature in a browser, or any Anti Virus or Anti Spyware program.

you know to be honest many people ask me about this since I know a few things about a computer and I always like to joke with'em and say "take all your cookies and put'em in a cookie jar" because of the fact that when you think of cookies you think of cookies in a cookie jar.... inless your my wife who thinks about eatting the cookies from the cookie jar... however these cookies are NON EDIBLE

Anyways Cookies: are a file that gets collected by every site that you visit to let you know where you've been and I believe there is a time imprint on each cookie letting you know when you visited and such perhaps links you checked out and things like that...
but if your looking to clean your cookies... you can hire my wife for $1 per cookie to eat them....hahahaaa, I'm just messing with ya, I do however recommend going to: http://4einc.info (our site) and hit up the tools page, you'll find a program called Crap Cleaner click on it and go download it as the program is free and it can clean up crap (hence the name Crap Cleaner)..

hope this helps.
by the way I do want to put that no my wife is not for sale in terms of paying her to eat your computer cookies

A cookie is a text file that is used by your browser to communicate information to a server. Many websites use this for authentication as well as tracking puporses. They are not all bad, and can hold site preferences as well. That way when you visit a website you can get a more customized experience and layout.

More detail if you are interested can be found on wikipedia.

Yes same happens to me I'd say to delete the browsing history in Tools>Internet Options>Delete Browsing History Then go to search and search for cookies click on it then highlight the cookies and delete all of them.....(it basically deletes like everything like you said). In Firefox(RECOMMENDED) you go to Tools>Clear Private Data which is way easier and thats why I use it. Im only 13 and Im like a pro at this lol.
