A friend of mine used the following sentence to let me know I had misspelled the word misspelled: (PS. You mispellt misspelled too.) I had spelled misspelled like this (miss spelled) He is correct. I did misspell it. Now ironically, I believe my friends use of this word (mispellt) is either a gross misspelling or he has made his own word. I would like to be sure before I throw it back in his face.

I do not think mispellt is a word in the English language. Spell check spelled it as follows misspelled.

Either misspelled or misspelt is correct, according to Dictionary.com. Your friend's word is misspelled.

Your friend did misspell misspelt. If he spelled it with one S and 2 L's.

mis·spell
–verb (used with object), verb (used without object), -spelled or -spelt, -spell·ing. to spell incorrectly

mis·spelled or mis·spelt (-spělt'), mis·spell·ing, mis·spells

You must use two S's and one L.

The word you are looking for is misspelt. Spelt is a common alternative spelling for spelled, especially outside the US.
