A few cons about them.
-You have to be a licenced Electrican and Licenced Mechanic to work on them.
-If one is parked and is turned off and it moves even a 1/16 of an inch, the car is a write off because of the electrical surge that fries every electrical componant in the car.
-They don't last long before you have to recharge them, and recharging takes electricity, and electrictiy comes from power plants, and they would polute more to supply electric cars then a standard passed emmissions vehicle of now.
-The batteries have to be properly disposed of, and new batteries are extremely expence becasue they are not run off of a normal lead-acid battery.
-They are not as vercitile as gasoline/diesel cars.
-They are just as, if not more, dangerious in an accident because of the mass amounts of electricity running through them.
-Batteries are quite heavy and cause quite a bit of weight that a normal vehicle would no have. Even electric cars have a motor, just run off of electricity, and they are still quite heavy.
-Parts to fix them are way more pricy because of the demand for them, and the amount of parts there are
-Contol of the vehilce, acceleration is not exact. when you step on the gas there is a speed up period, so your vehicle will start out slow and eventually start moving at a higher rate of speed, there is a "dead" moment when giving the "gas". Unlike gasoline and diesel cars where when you step on the gas something happens right then.
Thats right off the top of my head. I have driven an electric car, and did not feel safe driving it. I felt I was not in total coltrol. It actually scared me. I guess for every pro, there are two cons. In theory this is a good vehicle idea, but in practice there were too many bugs. It was like Chrysler toying with the idea of turbine engines in the early to mid 60's, they had a few working prototypes, but overall they were not practle. Its just another blip for automotive history. There will be other ideas like this in the future, I gaurentee it. Until oil runs dry the gasoline/diesel engine are here to stay.

Pro: It costs very little to charge an electric vehicle overnight using household current (about two dollars).
Con: Unless you live within 15 miles of work, food, schools, etc., you will be spending a LOT of time hitchhiking.
Pro: Electric vehicles produce almost no emissions.
Con: batteries for electric cars are major pains to dispose of in an eco-friendly manner
Pro: electric cars are fairly easy to operate and maintain, providing you can buy one.
Con: electric cars costs as much as a conventional vehicle and are far, far less versitle.
Con: remember, even though you charge the batteries in your garage there is still a smokestack or a nuke behind every electrical outlet so the idea of zero emissions is false.
Con: It is extremely difficult to even purchase an electric ride. Only a handfull of companies make a quality built and reliable car. You simply have no showroom you can wander into and pick out one in your favorite color.
Con: Weighing the cost of replacement batteries, disposal of the spent ones and the initial cost of the car itself you would do no more 'harm' to our enviroment by buying a low emissions/high fuel mileage VW Golf.

Pro: No pollution from the vehicle, no gas vapors from filling a tank, less chance of a fire after an accident, fewer parts to break and need repair.
Con: Limited range before recharge, more power plants need to be built for recharging with more pollution from them, much higher initial cost compared to current cars, potential higher electricity cost to pay for more power plants.

Pro-Nothing Con There ugly slow boring cars. And just where do you think the electricity comes from??How is it going to help the environment when you get the juice to run it from the power company. And what is it going to cost you to get rid of that Haz-mat battery?? Gas mileage isn't everything.

Electric cars are cleaner, and more silent than regular ones. But the only problem is they take a long time to charge.

Gm has a concept car that I hope they bring to production, it is called the Volt. It has a special battery and a small turbo gasoline engine one litre, that delivers triple digit gas mileage. Sound good to you? Me too....Dave.......
