I dreamed I was driving at night, and I stopped at a stop sign. To my left were car lights, and I waited for that car to pass through the intersection. Instead, it's lights went black. I peered closely as the last of their light disappeared. Then I looked forward and MY lights went black. Then the dashboard went dark. I was alarmed, trying to make sense of what was happening. And I figured, "This is it, something has destroyed the inventions we've come to depend on as humans."
Then I went blank (fainted), over the steering wheel. Then I woke up. It was very "real" (not surreal, not dream-like, even though it was a dream).

I've read the comments thus far and agree on many of them. I'm looking for work, and a great job is available that I'm apprehensive about applying for...I realize I have many of the skills, but I'm missing one or two--that are "leadership" or "influencing people" related. My "dashboard" in dealing with others is to be self denigrating, humorous, and spontaneous. I *AM* aware I'm viewed as irresponsible by some, off-the-wall by others, and viola: I'm looking to the left (to others) to try and let them influence ME. I need to find another source of vision, of figuring out what to do, and sitting in the car...it was really strong to feel the strength and ability and even consciousness "leave" me. I remember thinking "Oh Noooooo...."
Being unconscious is not being alive, either--I think there's a big piece of me that wants to be awake and is afraid!

It sounds like a stress induced dream. Total darkness could represent a fear, darknesss of inovation, could be a fear of loosing , creativity, time, motivation...etc. Take a good look at how you are with your curent situations, work, love, life. try to think about what this could be telling you.
Your own blackout is your own fear of loosing yourself in something, a large project, or a feud.
Dreams are a great way to see what's happening in our subconcscience. It helps us understand some of our deep thinking, cool dream!

Alot of times, dreams don't mean anything in particular.
They are just manifestations of our subconscious, and as such lots of other things can influence them. If you saw a car ad for instance on tv right before you went to bed, or something like that. Or maybe you were thinking of the old movie, "The Day the Earth Stood Still". It could a million things.
It's nothing major. As for having very realistic dreams, I have those often enough. It's usually a sign of a very powerful imagination and creative cognitive skills.
Have a nice night!

This depends if it is a a true vision of warning, then there is a saying that God speaks your own language, so most likely if you think on it in analogy you might grasp some definition.
To me, the sudden onset of the darkness in your dream probably represents the on coming of evil or you being blind sided by something in your life. Maybe it warning you to be strong and keep your cool in a soon to come confrontation against some sort of evil.

I've had dreams exactly like that. There could be a cause-and-effect, but who knows what that would be. I don't think there's an "inner meaning" or great premonition. As for "cause", I can give you an example of one of my dreams. Just like yours, I was sure the world had ended through a nuclear blast while I was sleeping. Everything turned bright in my head. I woke up. I lived on a hill at the time, and cars coming up the hill at night, their headlights would shine into my room for a few seconds. That's what it was. I was asleep and I sensed a bright flash and my brain did the rest. Maybe in your case somebody turned off a light?

To dream that you are driving a vehicle, signifies your life's journey and your path in life. The dream is telling of how you are moving and navigating through life. If you are driving and cannot see the road ahead of you, then it indicates that you do not know where you are headed in life and what you really want to do with yourself. You are lacking direction and goals.
To dream that you are fainting, suggests your inability to confront some unconscious issue or feelings. You need to be more aware and acknowledge of those feelings.

Sure it was a dream***
Well if you thought that something has destroyed all the inventions or mainly yours, it is stress related and probably brought on by a faulty piece of equipment, like a car, a computer, or even as small as a toaster... what ever it is when you fix your device it will fix your dreams.

Cool dream. Dreams are often about general fears, for example many people dream about not being able to speak, or having their teeth fall out (same thing, ability to communicate). Maybe you're not a fan of our reliance on technology - maybe it was just a random dream. Maybe last life you were a hunter-gatherer type and you don't like our modern easy cheats to get around. Whatever. Interesting dream in any case. It's cool when you have unique dreams that really stand out.
..or maybe we're doomed.

sounds like you should start writing your own book. seriously. reading the description of your dream gave me a good visual which was actually haunting.
Sounds like in your dream, you were already in an unconscious state before you fainted.
Would love to hear more.
