You can eat. If you were told to drink water they will do an external ultrasound.

When your bladder is full they can see through it to your uterus when they are performing the external, on your belly type of ultrasound.

If they want to look inside, they'll let you go pee first. I had a full bladder and they wouldn't see very well, so they had me go empty my bladder and did an internal. The internal was the clearest image, it was awesome!

I prefer the internal because the full bladder thing wrecks my nerves! Neither of them are painful or are any cause for alarm. You get to see your baby, it's terrific!!

You are having a normal ultrasound where they will put jelly on your stomach. The reason why you have to drink a lot of water is so your bladder will be really full and push your uterus up past your pelvis bone so the doctor can see the baby. You can eat food, that doesn't matter. It sucks having to drink all that water because you will REALLY need to pee! But seeing your baby will be worth it! Congratulations!

They could do either type of ultrasound. I disagree with Katie though, they do vaginal ultrasounds even if there's no problems, because in the early stages it offers a much clearer, better view. The reason they tell you to have a full bladder is because ultrasound waves carry through liquid better than through air or other organs.

I was never told about the whole drinking water thing and my ultrasound still went well. I'm sure you can eat. I did. And if you couldn't they would have told you that. You should have a normal ultrasound. I was only 6 weeks pregnant and had a normal one.

It will be a normal one they only would do the other one if there was a problem. Also you can eat just make sure you get all the liquids down as possible you should feel like you will pop! Hold it and you will see some amazing Pict's of the little one more fluids better Pict's.!!!
