Buy used system?

Hey, would this be a good investment. Buy an older system, not to old, then upgrade windows, and add, any hardware?
And what would be the estimated costs to do this?

brand new desktop machines are going for $300-500. I'd get a new one. Laptops you can save some $ buying used, or better yet refurbished or remanufactured,but desktops, buying used is a waste of time and money.
