I want to get a new guitar, either an electric acoustic or an electric. Which one and what kind of guitar should I get. I have been playing guitar for 2 1/2 years and since 1 1/2 years ago I have been teaching myself and others. So which guitar would you recommend?

It really depends on what kind of music you play. Will an acoustic suit your style or do you need something that packs a punch?

I personally prefer Fender for electric, but that's because I play both country and rock, so having a stratocaster is versatile. But Gibsons are great as well. Those are the two brands I'd recommend for electric. For acoustic, look into a Martin.

Ok, well if you play rock, get an electric. Then you can pick up an acoustic down the road.

An Epiphone Les Paul is a great guitar, which I have. It costs about $500-700, which is less expensive than its Gibson $2000 +
cousin.

Unless you are an audiophile, you probably can't tell the difference, and the Epi has great humbucker pickups. I personally don't like the mettallic Ibanez frankenstein-looking guitars, I prefer the classics.

The Epiphone has a great range of tone ideal for rock, because you can get an almost acoustic bassy sound from it too.

Good luck.

People don't realize this but a guitars sound makes no difference on the way the body is built. You can take a $200.00 guitar, put on the right pickups and the right strings and make it sound like a $5000.00 Les Paul. Les Pauls are famous but talking to guitarists they all say that the Gibsons are too heavy. I think Jacksons (nothing to do with Michael) are a real good rock-n-roll guitar as long as you have double humbuckers. At MusiciansFriend.com I seen an Ibenez package metal guitar package kit that sounded real good for the money. If you can, always look at the customer reviews at the bottom of the page. Hope you find the guitar that suits your playing style and good luck with your playing and lessons!

I have found that Fender, Ibanez, and Epiphone are the 3 best guitar brands for an intermediate player. All of them make excellent high quality, affordable electric guitars and acoustic guitars. Well, Fender can be pricey...but for about $400 you can buy a standard stratocaster or telecaster.

Here is what I reccomend, most of which I have owned or used....

Fender- Standard stratocaster, standard telecaster

Ibanez- Artcore series, or any other guitar made by them...all excellent and affordable

Epiphone- Les Paul Standard or Ultra, or the Casino or Dot models.

Amplifiers- Go with Fender or Marshall....best tone for the cash.

This is a preference issue, but for acoustic I would go for an ovation, for electric a good quality fender strat. Both are very versatile. Oh, since you play rock and alternative I would go with an electric and probably an Ibanez or Fender. See ya'!

The Gibson Les Paul Studio II. It is pretty much a gothic with EMG pickups. It runs about 1400.00. Or if you wanted to do it the cheap way, you could pick up an Epiphone Gothic Les Paul for about 300 bucks and a set of EMG pickups for about 150.
