I've never owned a car that was a stick shift. I had this boyfriend at one point in my life. He wouldn't let me go anywhere. He basically was a control freak. The type of relationship where I couldn't go anywhere, do anything (that didn't include him), couldn't talk to any body, couldn't wear make up or perfume.... Anyways we had two trucks (one automatic and one stick shift). He would take the automatic to work everyday. I had to teach myself how to drive the stick shift. I only drove it in town and to important places only. He caught on to me driving it and parked it at his dads house and kept the keys. I got fed up and had my mom buy me a car, so I could leave the s.o.b.....5 years later.... I get married and my husband buys me a car that's a stick shift. I have been driving it for about a week now. I have to drive it back and forth to work (about 20 minute drive into town). I think I'm doing good. Should I worry about the clutch, transmission, or motor?

i own a repair shop, and wouldn't worry about it too much it sounds like you have done alright after getting away from your x ,if you feel comfortable driving it i wouldn't worry about it,actually i like driving standard shift cars they sort of keep you awake because your always having to move and be doing something, but if you think your driving is pretty good then i wouldn't worry about it,the secret to driving a standard shift really good is get off the clutch as soon as you can, this helps stop undue wear on them, you,ll be alright, good luck i hope this help,s.

Sorry to hear about your previous loser bf, glad you got rid of him. Now, it may take a while to get used to a stickshift, but once you do, you'll truly appreciate driving. It just takes practice. Go around the neighborhood many times, or find an empty parking lot that you can practice the whole "foot, hand coordination thing"...it's easier than you think.

You can do it.

have a great night.

Clutch will be fine as long as you are easy on it, don't "jam" the car into gear, ease it in...easy off the clutch and easy on the gas at the same time and you'll do just fine.

You should be ok. It takes a lot of abuse to burn out a clutch, transmission or motor. Since you already know how to drive a manual transmission, it'll come back to you quick.

Keep you foot off the clutch as much as possible. When you need it, press it all the way down, then get off it again as soon as possible. Anything in-between is causing rapid wear.
