Why did they sleep with them and rape them?

I am constantly hearing, (especially from my parents who hate that my girlfriend is black) about how black women are not considered attractive. Can someone honestly and intelligently tell me why white slaveowners mated with their black female slaves? Most of the people who could afford slaves had families and lovely wives! (which often come with money) If you say it was because they did not consider the slaves human then it is even sicker. There had to be a reason behind it and I want to know why. I want to know why these men could do this to those women and yet today they still have to suffer the stigma of being considered less. I had to see my girlfriend cry yesterday because of some stupid thing my father said and I just want to know why. I'm not trying to be mean, I just want the truth.

I think it's entirely wrong and sick, this racial discrimination and hate towards colored people. Just another excuse for those of lesser brains and intelligence, to zero in on a group of people and set them up as scapegoats all for the purpose of feeling some sense of their own superiority. That to me, is inhuman treatment for another human being. Your father is unfortunately ignorant. But his motivation, is more likely the derision of others, because you are dating someone of a different color. Your dad must have trouble standing up for himself. He should rather be getting to know your girlfriend and should realize if you care for her, he should seek to find her good qualities too, as you are his son, so out of respect for you, he should act with respect for her as well. But many a human being, seems to lack this basic realization, that we are all children of God, black, white or otherwise, and all of us were created equally. As to why the slaveowners slept with their help, that's easy to understand. They abused their position of power and took advantage of those black women. It's just examples of self-serving individuals without basic regard for humanity. It's no different than man acting like an animal. Without thought, without regard and just plain getting their jollies with no fear of consequence. These women had no one else looking out for them, and they were at the mercy of these cruel, heartless men. Their wives should have shot them! That would have been the fate they'd have deserved. I think it's despicable! And you are a fine, outstanding human being who is without prejudice. Your father is one of the sheep who cannot think for himself and just blindly follows others, furthering this sick line of thought that certain humans are less equal than others. Try to have discussions with your father about the blacks throughout history that have done worthwhile things and have contributed good to society. Martin Luther King Jr., Nelson Mandella, Oprah Winfrey, Sidney Poitier, and so many more. All races have their good and bad souls. We are all human. Let's stop this ludicrous prejudice. Is your dad against other races as well, say, Jews, Germans, Muslims, to name a few of the usual suspects? You should discuss with him on what he is basing his prejudice. Perhaps you could get him to see your point of view. But it's truly sad and wrong for people that do think with discrimination against others. We are all in the family of man on this Earth. When will we all get it and learn to live with love and respect for one another? Isn't that why God gave us all a brain? I wish you good luck in opening the mind of your father!

Rape is about power. These men considered having sex with their slaves because they were deemed powerful. It seems sick to us, but they were often on a great power trip. I know it was awful (evil, even), but they may well have seen those women as trophies. The women more they raped the more powerful the other men thought they were.

It's still the same now. Often men who rape young girls are on a power trip. The slaves wouldn't dare answer back (they may well have been killed if they did) ... the young girls in todays times feel the same. Their wives would turn a blind eye for the very same reason.

It was evil and is still an evil act today. I guess lots of men today still have the same egotistic manor ... they say mean things about women of other cultures (and even their own) to feel powerful amongts their friends. It's not just black women they do it to either. It's an awful thing for anyone to have to endure.

You'll never know what went through the slaveowners minds when they forced themselves onto their slaves. There is various reasons today for why men still rape women of all races, their reason is not the same. My "assumption" would be that she (the slave) was an attractive young woman without any rights or any defences. She was an easy f*** that he'd never be punished for. Those men were cowards, obviously. If it makes your girlfriend feel any better my fiance and I are the same race yet his parents still say horrible things about me.

Tell me, why do men rape women today? It's a power thing, dude, and has nothing to do with love or passion. It has been going on since the dawn of time, and in 100 years, it will still be going on. There are a few wimpy men out there who just can't get it up unless they can use control and power over the woman. And you need to speak frankly with your father about the way he treats your friend, or stop subjecting your friend to the abuse. Your turn to be a man and protect your woman.

Well black women definitely aren't considered univerally unattractive by everyone, so your girlfriend has nothing to cry about. Obviously you see something you like, right?

But white slaveowners slept with and raped black women for the same reason they've always slept with and raped all colors, shapes and varieties of women....who knows?

Rape is usually a display of power, not having to do with any kind of sexual desire. Its a sick and wrong way to display dominance over another human being. As far as racism, that's wrong too. Your parents should seriously get over themselves. If I was in your girlfriends shoes, I would have punched your father smooth in his face, but she obviously has class. I guess the answer to your question, why are people still racist and hateful, is that there is no answer and there is no reason. I hate to see it, but I know those people will get theirs one day. Good luck to your lady and yourself, my advice is that you should honor her, and your relationship, and don't let her be exposed to her family, if they are the ones who cant be accepting, its not her fault, and not fair to her.
