I really feel for you!
I'm going through the same at the moment, i'm also not sure if its depression or hormonal.
I spent Saturday night in hospital, my partner thought i'd gone mad and tried to have me sectioned. I'd thrown a glass at his head (he was also in hospital getting his head stitched!)
The last thing I remember was him critisising my parenting skills - and i apparently lost it and started shouting and throwing things.
I had to see a psychiatrist before they'd let me out. He didn't think I was mad - just stressed. And i'd let it build up inside me.
I'm off to see my GP this afternoon - if I don't get help my partner will be packing his bags - and i can't say i blame him.
Keep a diary of your menstrual cycle, and of how you're feeling - then go and get some help from your doctor. Good luck. x

You could be describing me and so many of my friends and I'm sure many women. It is normal for a woman to experience fluctuations in her mood as the hormone levels change.
As we get older the hormone levels change and the drop off of hormones before menstruation can be quite dramatic. You can have the high level of hormones of a teenager one day and the next day, that falls out.
Hence the feeling of depression, or rage, anxiety and extreme emotions.
One thing I will tell you is that just knowing that this is something many women go through, may help to ease your mind. Also when you can acknowledge this is the cause and there isn't anything else going on, it may help you to warn those around you, this isn't a good time and to be supportive.
You know that it will pass and you'll be feeling yourself again.
If these symptoms get too much to cope with, and you are young enough to still take oral contraceptives, then I recommend you try them if your doctor is ok with it. They tend to balance out your hormone levels and you don't have the highs and lows.
These days women are allowed to take them for up to 3 months and only have to come off them 4 times a year for a bleed.
Talk about relief from the hormones that can very much make or break our months sometimes.
Hang in there and know you aren't doing anything wrong. Hope this helps a bit.

I would ask my doctor about some kind or hormone treatment. Whether it be with birthcontrol, hormone replacement shots, early menopause (depending on your age), surgery, or over the counter medicine. You could even seek out some kind of herbal medicine. My point being....Talk to a professional. Have him do blood work too. If you have to get a second opinion. Every doctor is different.

Hormones do different things to different people. You should see your doc and discuss all of this with him/her to help find a solution that might work for you.
