"14KP Means that You have Purchased a Ring that is EXACTLY 14 KARAT/ CARAT GOLD it has been tested and the GOLD Is 58.8% PURE! In some cases, JEWELRY MANUFACTURERS will sell 13KT -13.5KT STAMPED WITH 14KT STAMP. This is an ACCEPTABLE Practice in the JEWELRY Trade- 14KP TRANSLATES TO "FOURTEEN KARAT PLUMB", SO YOU CAN SEE THIS IS A GOOD THING!"

The fact that your boyfriend brought you anything is very sweet, a promise ring makes it even more special. Worrying about the value of it in gold does indeed make you sound like a gold digger but maybe you are just curious. Your boyfriend obviously cares a great deal about you, you should be worried more about the value of the ring to you. Here's hoping you gave him a hug and a kiss for such a sweet gift.

Some times engagement rings are stamped 14KP. The 14KP is a marking for plum gold which is a true mix of 14 karat gold. Some governments allow 13.5k to be stamped 14k so the 14KP tells the consumer this is a true 14 karat mix.

Promise rings are a waste of money. They are a promise to get engaged to be married someday. Anyone I have ever known that did the promise ring thing ended breaking up and never getting engaged for real later. Do not buy a ring for your BF. Men don't wear promise rings. He will not tell anyone that it is a promise ring because his friends will call him gay if they knew the truth. So basically your gift of a promise ring will be pointless because he will deny to anyone within ear shot that it is not a promise ring, just a plain old ring you gave him as a gift. He will probably tell people you gave it to him for his birthday or christmas. And promise rings are suppose to be worn on left hand ring finger so if he is wearing a metal ring it will look like a wedding band. Skip the rings and just promise to be faithful to each other until you are both ready to get engaged and married for real.

Listen to zowar1363, he's right.
10-14 karat is probably the best, anything with a higher gold content is too soft to wear.

It's pure gold... I understand you wanting to find out, but try not to doubt your boyfriend too much, it's the thought that counts! Though personally, for a promise ring, if he spent less than 15-20 then I'd be a bit disappointed, because it feels cheap if he buys you a ring for $2... like he was walking past a stall and picked it up.

I'm sure your ring is beautiful, wear it with pride ^-^

The p stands for plate or plated, means there is gold in the ring but in basically covers the outside of a ring, covering a less precious metal. think if you paint a bare wall, you've covered the original substance to make it look nicer. But hey, if you've got a nice, pretty, reflective diamond in the setting, then I wouldn't complain. Anyways, it's the thought that counts. For an engagement ring my husband initially gave me a $.25 machine ring and after I said yes, he gave me the real thing. I told him I would have kept the cheapie forever and never asked for a "real one", because I was marrying him forever, not the ring.

if your boyfriend bought you a promise ring, I don't think you should worry wether its gold or fake. It came from the heart he went out and got it for you, He thought about you. Its a ring thats not all that counts.

if it is samped so the inside that is usually where they put the stamp to show what karat the gold is and the makers initals sometimes. so it sound like yes it is real gold. if you are really worried about it go to a jeweler and get it checked it takes 2 seconds and shouldn't cost anthing,or even a pawn shop can check it.

It is not fake gold! And for those smart ones out there gold is pure at 24kt not 28kt. What you have is plumb gold which is pure 58.8% gold with the rest being alloys, that only make it stronger. you should enjoy it. I have been in the jewelry buisness for 8 years.
