I'm so thankful for food stamps and medicaid. my husband works 7 days a week, and we still would not survive if it weren't for the food we get from the government. i think it's a shame that some people abuse the system. something should be done so that this doesn't happen, i agree. but my family eats because of food stamps. my son can go to the doctor because of medicaid. i thank God for these programs, and the fact that they are available in spite of the people who abuse them.

The population on welfare has become a force in the political field as it has become so large. The government will never try to change it at this point as it would be suicide in most locations. This is too bad as usually it is the people who need welfare that can't get it and many able bodied types who make it there life's work. Can you imagine living in a country where you have to have illegal immigrants harvest your crops etc. but you have to pay healthy men and women to do nothing.

I was hurt in an accident.which killed my family. I sold my two rental houses, then all my collections of things coins stamps, guns,Everything i had, there were times I couldn't get out of bed for two weeks at a time at all, not even to go to the bathroom, so I Finally broke down after I lost everything I had,i applied for disability and got it immediately,I wish i had applied six years earlier but my pride wouldn't let me, I should have gone ahead and got on disability but NO I have to be proud,I sold every single thing i had ,till I was actually hungry with no food, I was stupid proud.I cant stand making six hundred and 23 dollars a month from the government, all that money .I have seriously tried to kill myself twice because i don't like it ,at all.I can afford to have one nice meal a day.so that s what I eat ,one meal a day.I'm in so much pain all the time, that it doesn't matter.but for some reason .I still know that the spirit of God is with me.

Welfare sucks! Big time!!! It wasn't created to be used and abused either. It was created for people in the time of need. The system has gone too far by allowing these scums to suck the system dry! Why do you think our nation is going broke? Why are our taxes so high? Take these welfare abusers off of their free ride and make em work for a living! I could go on and on and on, but, won't.

Some people need and deserve the help but so many abuse it. I used to know of a guy who would by food stamps from people at half their value and give the people cash so that they could buy booze and cigarettes. Unfortunately I never had concrete proof, it was just common knowledge among some people I knew, otherwise I would have gladly turned him in. I think that he eventually got caught, I hope that it is true.

I'm a probation officer. A lot of my probationers are poor people. I don't know of a one who has a "nice house" "free food" or a big amount of income. In fact, I don't know how they survive on what they get.
In Arkansas, people on SSI (Supplemental Security Income) get about $520/month. How could anyone live on that?
I'm not in favor of paying people to be idle, but, I'm also not in favor of having children hungry.

The point of welfare isn't to help people, it's a modern day bread and circus. It's to keep the poor pacified so they don't take up arms and revolt.
