your remote has one too under the battery cover. press both of them to connect the controllers to the console if they do not connect automatically by themselves.

its used to sync additional remotes to the wii without having to add them during the game they just come on when u turn the wii on

Instead of having to reconnect your controller every time you want to play multiplayer, Sync it, and in will automatically connect to your Wii.
