People today are not getting married as early as they once were. A woman could have her career in full force when she becomes married and doesn't want to bother with taking her husband's last name. It is a hastle to have to go and get a new driver's license, SS card, change banking information...etc. Why don't men take their wives names if it's so important to have the same name?

You can choose your husbands last if you want but if you have degrees that in you maiden name , keep it that way. Like CPA, Accountant, just thing that you earned and have went by this name that everyone knows you by. I don't see the big deal in taking a man;'s name. With all of the divorces most women ask for their maiden name back, I know I got mine back and you know why ,, his last name is not my name , I like mine better.. .

I didn't take my husbands last name because I was in school and it was easier not to have to change all my school records and stuff. Plus I like my last name better... lol but I will be changing it in the near future.

I find it to be an outdated custom dating from the times when a woman and her property were transferred to a man. Hence, she, and any property that she had became the man's property.

I've had my last name all of my life and see no reason to change it for marriage.

i changed my name when I got married and I see no reason not to. a name is not an identity as some women think. that would be like saying you dont exist to anyone who doesnt know your name. that you are invisible to everyone who doesnt know your name. thats definitely not the case. a name is just a name. I would liek to know if these women who think a name is an identity dye their hair or wear makeup. thats changing the way they are thus changing their identity as they call it. I'm not saying that its necessary to change your name after marriage, but identity is not a reason not to. it was important to my husband that I take his name because its kind of ties us as a family...the Taylor family...not just Mr. Taylor and his wife..with the different last name that isnt even called Mrs. because she doesnt share a last name. if keeping your name is important then I suggest using both.

Why wouldn't you? Your children will bare his last name and they would want there mom to have the same last name as them and there dad! It makes you all FAMILY !! You all should have the same last name ! A child should have the dads last name for his namesake !! It's so much easier and less confussing later on when your kids or grandkids start looking up the Family Tree !! You know what i mean? !

Well, are you a famous person or a very well known business person in your town? If not, then if you love this person enough to devote the rest of your life to him, then take his last name. Besides, the kids will be confused as to why you have different last names.

I took my husband's last name strictly because it was shorter than my maiden name.
