Those are forward posts is what was deemed hot spots at the time. Rapid deployment forces stationed state side can respond to a crisis usually within 24 hours, but 24 hours can make a big difference in positioning and outcame in battle. During the cold war, my post was within an hour of eastern bloc borders, which means we were the first line of defense in preventing a Soviet overrun of Europe. In the current political climate it is unneccesary to have troops stationed in Europe for such purposes, which is why many are being withdrawn and reposted stateside.

It is important for the military to have bases to launch from, in allied countries.
We've had our bases there since the first world war so why change it now. Besides, when our guys sign up, there are a majority that want to go overseas for a change of pace...just getting a chance to see other countries instead of being in one place all the time. When it isn't war time, they really appreciate it.
Our abandoning those bases could put those allied countries at risk for attack as well. Other countries do not have bases here, as it is not necessary. They are smaller and their armies and air force may need assistance and we are there.

I see no reason as to why they must be forbidden yet i'm no longer confident that our allies decide to place a base right here. a military base value allot of money. they're saving money via getting us grant some protection. in addition they make allot of money from bases from rentals and the financial income to the communities around them. the explanation for lots of the bases grow to be the proximity to Soviet international locations. Thats why they have been initially geared up. Now pulling out will injury interior reach economies. weren't based in Germany or Australia to threaten the locals. reality is the locals would desire to over run a base on any given day that leads to "Y". in the event that they choose us to bypass away they are in a position to surely make us do it. have been there via invitation to assist. in the event that they decide to lease land and build a base right here i do no longer think of we'd strategies.

Read your world history to learn why we have been asked to place military bases in some countries and have them in others by treaty.
I really would prefer that we stop expending US taxpayer funds in countries that just whine and complain anyway. It should be a fair trade or not at all. From my point of view we should pull out of every country that will not pay us to stay there and stop extending aid to any country that does not want us there.

US Military bases in foreign countries are useful for espionage and jump-offs for military operations against other countries.

Quid pro quo. Usually its done in return for something else. For instance, we gave Great Britain fifty destroyers in return for allowing us to build bases on their land. We have bases in Japan in return for giving them their sovereignty in the years after the surrender. Likewise, South Korea knows that our troops guarding their border are the only thing keeping Kim Jong Il from taking over.

They are mostly strategic points in which to deploy boats planes and people. So say if there is war in Germany again we are already there and ready. And so that we can keep and eye on foreign interests.
PS. Some of the people on here are VERY immature

They become very necessary in the event of war. Like if we had a base in Paksistan then went to war with India... this would give us a place to deport troops to quickly.

So we can defend their country there so we don't have to defend our country here or at all.
