Hypothetical situtation: So when I finally get my phd I would like to be Dr. Maiden name, not Dr. Husband's name, esp. considering I am the end of the family line and I am very proud of it, plus this is all me and all the schooling I've put myself through thus far (even before getting married). I would've kept my maiden name but I hadn't established anything important with it yet (published papers, etc.). AND if I had gotten married after getting even my masters, my husband would've been more comfortable with me keeping my last name, so I would've kept my maiden name anyway if it had just been a few more years... Is it legal to use my maiden name in such a way? If you're just going to rant about how untraditional everyone is becoming and horrible this is, don't bother answering because it's a waste of your time.

Now, personally I hyphenate my last name...

Some things I accredit to myself...and some to my marriage...

That way, I am not letting any side of what I choose to do go...

And, when I am ready I will change it to my married name....

So, I think you could use both names...as in...your maiden position...and your married accomplishments as well...

It will also give your husband a place in his portion of validation in your relationship and your life...

Many women use their maiden name with their degree. You may want to check with a lawyer about the legal ramifications, but I don't believe there should be any problems.

I don't think that it would be disrespectful to your husband at all, he is most likely very proud of you. It would be important for your family name to be remembered, and this would be an honor for your family. Have a good night.

Actually, there's nothing wrong with it. It's who you are in addition to Mrs. Husband's Name.
