The only thing the SAT predicts or was ever meant to predict is likelihood of college success.

The SAT should indicate if you have the level of comprehension and vocabulary you need in order to be able to read and understand most college text books. The math portion should indicate if you are ready to tackle college algebra or other math. The writing portion is the weakest link. Most people do not turn out anything remotely approximating college level work with a prompt and less than an hour to write 2 pages. This by most counts is a "rough draft"

If you are wise, you and your classmates will do as well as possible on the test. One of the things that the test can do is help ;you get scholarship money. It won't stop you from going to college but, it can help make it easier to pay.

So as far as success... nope, the SAT does not predict anything. Your attitude about your academic work and any other work you do is far more predictive.

Take a deep a deap breath and do your best.

Good luck

SAT is a logic and reasoning test to determine how you will perform in a college classroom. It has nothing to do with success.

SAT can help you with admission to a highly selective college, but it will NOT help you be successful at that college. Only hard work, staying clear headed and making positive life choices will do that.

Relax about the SAT - Make good personal choices, do your homework, apply to several colleges and take charge of your destiny. Then, measure your success by your goals, and your happiness, not anyone elses.

Good luck!

I scored very highly on the SAT almost 10 years ago and since then my happiness and success has been mixed. I think it is an indicator of how smart one is but I would not put much faith in its ability to predict future happiness or success. People with average SAT scores go on to live happy, successful lives too.

An indication of a good SAT score is that you paid attention in school, studied hard, did your homework, and retained all the information you learned.

Just that alone would almost surely guarantee a good shot at being successful in your career which would then make you very happy!

Keep studying and good luck with your test.

um...no....the SAT is just like the ACT. a test of how much you've learned so far to help colleges gage where you are. The higher the score, the smarter you typically are. Better scores=better schools.

Don't freak out about the test, its not as bad as some people make it out to be. I took it last year and it's seriously not that scary.

I would definetely recommend going to a book store likes Barnes & Nobles or Borders and picking up an SAT prep book. They explain question format and have practice tests to help you prepare properly. Best of luck on it!

You definetly want to do your best on your Sat's. But your score is not an indicator on the quality of life you may have in the future. By getting a better score you might get into a better college, but it is what you choose to do from there that will detemine your success or how happy your life will be in the future.

I scored above the 90th percentile on the SATs back in the 80s and have struggled with depression ever since.
I have however had a fair bit of success coaching people on multiple-choice tests.

Calm down, you'll do ok!

no. it's a pathway to a next step in life, and as such a good result can mean academic success or roadblocks, but it's no more powerful than an IQ or hair colour -- it's what you do with your opportunities and how you feel about your life that counts, not the number you get. many uneducated people succeed, and many great SAT scorers may not, so focus on good results but relax, it's not going to make you a "loser" or "winner" in life!

The SAT may mearsure many things, but life-success ain't one of them.
So, relax..say your prayers...have a Coke and a smile!
