And, pop, rap rnb and techno don't count. Neither does that stupid new age punk crap.

You shouldn't listen to the charts on your big commercialised radio stations either!! Give struggling bands a chance!! :) They are where the real talent is.

I agree. I can't listen to regular raido anymore, even the stations that once played rock and metal becasue they have moved to the emo format. And it seems like the same 10 songs played over and over all day.

Sometimes, I'll find a good program on a college station that'll play good music from local bands. For the most part I listen to this feed online onelouderradiouk.homestead.com/index.html (even at work - a bit quiter than usual though, but not eveyone in my offices prefer hardcore metal)
Some kick a** local bands around here are:
Keratoma
Kitchen Knife Conspiracy
and
Shotgun S()domy (I don't know if I can say that on here)

SUPPORT LOCAL MUSIC!

You have gotten some pretty caustic responses. "Good Music" is a relative term defined only by narrow minds. Frankly I think "good music" has to include the best of every musical style. Music is music but if you restrict yourself to only what you prefer, you have no idea what music really is. Heck, I've heard great polkas! Love "Classical". Big Band rocks. I even get into Gregorian Chant! Anybody out there even pay attention to bag pipes and what it takes to learn how to play them?? Good music is any tune that will live longer than the style. That's why the Beatles and the Stones are still being played today 30 or 40 years after the fact. That's why a Beethoven symphony still draws listeners. Let's just see if some of the junk being recorded today and pumped out on huge car speaker systems (which rattle the windows of every house they drive by and totally ruin the hearing of the nuts who pump that volume up) will be around 30 years from now. And don't give me that bull about if it is too loud, you're too old! By the time you're my age, you will be lucky if you have any mid-range to high frequency hearing left. I still do!

We all think our music is good. Here is a story that illustrates the futility of a subjective point of view:

An owl saves a wounded eagle from a jackel by pouncing on it and sending it away. The eagle was moved, and grateful. "How can I repay you, he asks?" The owl smiles, and says:"When you see my nest, please do not eat my babies." "But how will I recognize them ?", asks the eagle. "They are the most beautiful babies in all the world. You can't miss them" says the mother owl, proudly.

Shortly thereafter, the eagle spies a nest, with possibly the ugliest little chicks he had ever seen. Confident that he was honoring the owl's request, he made a quick meal of the little birds. When the owl happened upon the scene, she shrieked, "WHAT HAVE YOU DONE! THOSE ARE MY CHILDREN!" The eagle was beside himself in remorse, but explained the error; finding the chicks to be horribly ugly, and not possibly what she had described.

"You fool! Don't you realize, that to a mother, her children are always the most beautiful in the world?"

Therefore, my music ( which you may despise) causes my soul to soar, and brings me great joy. Why would you rob me of this?

you're absolutely right. some of the unknown is the best.
what has happened to the bands lately, most of them sound EXACTLY the same.. for instance, boys like girls, cute is what we aim for, aand some of the fueled by ramen record label. by any means, those bands are good, but its sickning how simliar they are. but my favorite band is paramore. most of the bands i love arent popular at all.. but they are just amazing. for exampe if you ask a random person.. or only 1/150 people at school would know them..if your lucky lol

Nope. No one listens to good music but you. Everyone else like me, listens to stuff that gives us headaches and make us cringe when we hear a new song start. But not you. You are way above the rest of us. Maybe one day we could strive to be cool like you. I can only wish.

Well, maybe if you listened to this "Punk Crap", you might like it. To some people, that is an INSULT. Oh, and just for the record, IT IS NOT CRAP!

I think I listen to good music. My bands will never win Grammies or sell a million records because they won't sell out and make a main stream track.
