Internet is what you are on now. It's a public network that allows anybody access to websites.
Intranet is a private network within a determined number of users. An example is a business intranet that can be connected to by employees for company information
Extranet is a network used by business that is private but can be accessed by outside people who are given access. An example is a company that has a website and gives access to another company to share marketing information.

the internet is referring to resources which are generally available to the public, some of which may require a login to access specific information
An intranet is referring to resources which are only available within a company or organization.....any such location could be located anywhere in the world. Some resources may require a login to access more private information, like human resources records.
Extranet refers to an intranet, a portion of which is accessable to that organization's vendors or customers. The resources are not public like the internet. Another way to look at it is a business to business resource like a vendor to look at a retailer's sales records to get an idea of how their product is doing.....

Internet -- the worldwide network which the world wide web, and e-mail, and several other protocols use.
Intranet -- any "private" or "internal" network, accessible only from inside that organization.
Extranet -- a private network, as seen from an intranet.
