I actually like some of it. If music has thought to it and the lyrics actually don't include constant references to bitches and ho's, drugs, and beating women up that's a big plus. Music is constantly evolving and there's always been good and bad.

I'm still a teen, but I want to answer this anyway.
TODAY'S MUSIC IS HORRIBLE!!! I do like R&B and Korean rap (at least it's not about the b****es and h**s) and foreign music.
American music is just.. well, you know. The rap is appalling and I can't believe elementary schoolers listen to that c-rap. Yes that was a bad joke. Even the "punk" bands aren't so great now because they're now "emo" which is short for emotional but is used in a slang term to describe depressed. I (am Asian and) like to listen to foreign music (specifically Japanese and Korean, can't stand Chinese music, even though I'm Taiwanese and Japanese) mainly because of the music, the sound, and the lyrics. The lyrics aren't like what you find in today's music. Yes sometimes there are a few that are similar, but they don't appear as often.
Old songs however.. Well I like funk, jazz, and music from the 80s. What people really consider "oldies" nowadays though, not a fan of that.

I'm in my 30s and love the country, rock, and pop of today, even with the lyrics (I admit I'm ashamed of it for the kids, but personally I rather the x rated versions such as Akon's "I wanna love you") but have a friend in the 50s who can't stand music such as Akon and R&B (espcially for the wording) but loves say Avril Lavigne and loves new rock such as Distirbed and Killswitch engage.
But most above 40 I know , can't take the beats of rap but like pop music but can't stand the lyrics only because everything is sexual overtones.. it's nothing about being poets but people raised in a different era where songs weren't about who/what to F***.

I hate Rap. An ex-coworker once said they left the c off of the beginning of the word. 'Nuf said.
I hate the type of music where they sound as if they are screaming. Someone said this might be Rage Rock. I say, Garbage! Same comment for most Heavy Metal.
I hate Satanic lyrics, cussing, and the constant degradation of sex. Also Garbage.
For the most part, though, today's music is okay.
It kinda' reminds me of when I was listening to The Who, Steppenwolf, and Jimi Hendrix, and my parents thought it would ruin me. lol

I'm well over 40...I like the beat and the clever and quick rhyming but only when it tells a story. Rap in general seems like crack heads on acid or PCP and seem just one foot in the loony bin or one step away from committing rape or some other sexist and violent act "I'll pop a cap in your ***" stuff. Most of it is for "shock value" I think. There is nothing truly original out there anymore. Kids, write some meaningful stuff!! This crap is too repetitious and boring.

I love the lyrics of the music I listen to. Sugarland, Keith Urban, Alan Jackson, Danielle Peck, George Strait, Brad Paisley, Toby Keith, Tim McGraw, etc.. All great.
I don't listen to rap at all, although I think there is somebody out there who sings it. I think his name is Cool E O or something like that.
