I'm reading "IDEAS: A Book on History from Fire to Freud" by Peter Watson and I found some lines in his introduction amusing. Namely, there's a young, bright man proudly telling his grandmother that he's going to a Doctor of Philosphy. And his grandmother asked him this question.
