I want to hire someone to come in and clean every couple of weeks. Problem is I don't know anyone in my area that can recommend someone. There are ads in my local newspapers but how to choose one?

call someone in the paper and ask for referals or ask friends who have cleaning people come in

put an ad in the paper, then when you interview them ask them for letters of recommendations from others that they have cleaned for. also, don't hire anyone unless they are bonded. this is like insurance for housekeepers, and their client. if something ends up missing or broken it can be settled by the bonds people. you should also do a background check on them if you are ever going to be not home when they are there. another option is to use a cleaning company like molly maids. it's a bit more expensive but, the company is held responsible if anything goes wrong, and since you only need their services 2 times a month it might be worth it because you won't have to do background checks and such. good luck

you take the ladies advice and start checking and bonding and all that other crap your cleaning lady is going to tell you where to go
all you need to know is how long has she been doing if you want other stuff like bonding insurance whats the sense you have to trust some one some time it otherwise like the other one said go to a pro some one who will take you for a ride
