It takes approximately half an hour to suit up if you have someone helping with the laces and buckles. The armor goes on over a gambeson, which is a quilted tunic.
Keep in mind that armor varied in quality by time period. During the 1200s it was entirely chain link with possibly a full metal breastplate. By the 1400s, there was more plate armor. Full plate armor was obsolete almost as soon as it was invented and quickly became regulated to tournament use. The Battle of Agincourt showed the disadvantages so clearly that it was rarely used in battle after that.
The only animals that were ever armored on a regular basis were horses. Dogs might have been as a matter of show, but horses needed some armor to protect them in battle and on the tourney field. It was considered unchivalrous to strike at the horse, but it happened in battle. A general term for horse armor was called barding.
In the Lord of the Rings movie THE TWO TOWERS, you can see Denethor being armed by his aide.

It depends on what kind of armor the knight was wearing. I shouldn't think more than a half an hour even with the most complex suits of armor. If he wore some chain mail and a helmet, even less.
Horses were armored occasionally, but only in the heaviest cavalry divisions and by the most wealthy knights.

It could take a few minutes to a few hours to get into a suit of armor (better pee before starting). The knights usually had serfs to help them in their daily tasks.
Mostly horses were armored against arrows and also swords and spears from down below.
Some animals have natural armor, but we won't go there.

The only armor I know of for animals was for warhorses. It was designed to keep them from being struck in the forelegs, and for protecting the eyes from being shot. Some cultures even had a type of breastplate for a horse so it couldn't be speared.
I once read that simple armor...chain mail and vambrances...was relatively easy to get on...about a half hour...but full, ceremonial armor was very difficult because it was all in pieces...took many hours.

I know that some of the more complex armor took up to a full day to put on. Animals that wore armor were horses, dogs, elephants and maybe even more that I don't know about.
