Relax. This is your body preparing for child birth and your baby is getting ready too. As long as the baby is moving, he/she is ok.
The sharp pains in the cervix are likely you beginning to dialate. Your at full term, so you should be going into labor really soon. Healthy babies are more active near the time your labor begins. I think maybe they sense the changes going on around them.
If you have some relaxation techniques available to you, use them and try not to be too anxious as this will cause the baby to be really active too.

I'm 40 weeks as well and having the same sharp cervix pains... my doc reassured me the pains are normal and it's all a part of your body getting ready to deliver and your cervix thinning. 37-40 weeks is an "average" gestation period... there's no harm if you're up to a week or so over your due date. My little one moves a lot too, but not much more than in weeks past - she just doesn't have much room left in there so the stretches feel more intense to me. I've been told an active baby is a healthy baby. You know your body the best, so if you have serious concerns you should talk to a doctor.

This can be for a variety of reasons. You'll probably want to make a quick doctor visit to make sure. My sister went into labor late too. She ended up having complications (her baby boy was restless). His heart beat was slowing down and everything. It was because she had a problem that a few other women have. It's when the baby has been in so long that he/she is excreting wastes into the amniotic fluid. Doctors can normally tell this when the water breaks and it's not clear.

I sounds like you are well on your way to full-blown labor. The sharp pains are likely your cervix dilating; have you passed your mucous plug yet?
Ask yourself these questions, then call your on-call doctor, nurse or midwife and report the symptoms:
*Have you passed your mucous plug?
*Is there any 'show', ie. discharge? Is it pink, clear, or straw-colored? (If there is small streaks of blood, you are ok -this is from dialation. If there is a lot of blood, like a period, go to the ER right now)
*Are you having pains in your lower back or upper thighs?
*Are you feeling a lot of pressure, like you have to use the bathroom?
*Is the baby moving unusually? Too much, too little?
Good luck, and enjoy your new baby!

The baby is probably ready.....but it does not need to continue to twist.....you do not want that cord to wrap around the babies neck. GO AND AT LEAST LET THEM CHECK YOU OUT.

Wait... give it a few days. The pain will go away in a day or so.
Cause if you were REALLY worried, you would have called your doctor, and not gone online and asked us.
