Santa Fe, NM – President George W. Bush’s budget proposal sent to Congress yesterday calls for a four percent cut to the State Children’s Health Insurance Program (SCHIP), a limit of SCHIP funding to children under 200% of the Federal Poverty Level (FPL), an 18% cut to the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP), a cut in Medicare payments to hospitals and providers, and an increase of insurance premiums for Medicare recipients.
“The Bush budget proposal threatens thousands of New Mexico’s most vulnerable citizens,” said Governor Richardson. “While New Mexico is fighting to increase access to health care, Washington is cutting funding for those who need it the most.”
New Mexico currently has nearly 9,000 children who are receiving health care through the SCHIP program. Under the President’s proposal nearly 5,500 of these children would not be covered under SCHIP because they are in households with an income above 200% yet below 235% of FPL.

Thanks Halo for spreading good example of just how the republican mentality only hurts this country instead of strengthening it.
And its a good example of repubs always passing responsibility to others

Hey Larry .. when republicans attest to the falsifying of documents, should we still turn the other way and pretend nothing happened in that regard?

I often think Bush poses a greater menace to this nation and the world at large than all the terrorists combined. As we sit on the verge of becoming a police state, engaged in a forever war of choice, I can see all kinds of parallels to Orwell's 1984.
His priorities are ego and power.
He also reminds me of the character Buzz Windrip in Sinclair Lewis's It Can't Happen Here. Bush is doing a great job as a liar, crook and war criminal.

What makes you think those children that are not covered by SCHIP need SCHIP? Those households and NM are looking for free money, and President Bush is smarter than that.
Spending for this war was unpredictable. We can all agree that almost every American citizen wanted to go to war after 9/11. If you didn't, you obviously didn't speak up. The way the plan went wrong was unpredictable, and it would cost more in the long run to pull out now.

From a non-US citizen stand point: What the world sees on TV screens show that the USA's social life is not getting any better and that poverty, corruption, and crime are all growing in high rates. It is also clear that when natural disasters hit the country, the government failed to respond adequately and showed a real weakness in treating people with equality standards. Thus it seems he is not doing well within the States.
Concerning his foreign policy. He is loosing the nation's sons in Iraq and other places, he is using the nation's resources without a viewable profit, he increased the number of the nation's enemies, encouraged ethnic fights and started a war among religious groups within the nation and outside.
A simple conclusion is that he is not doing well at all, yet its your call.

Without an Impeachment--he's got 22 months left to fill up he and his buddies pockets. He'll also defund our Government to the point that their won't be anything left to work with for the Democratic candidate. http://www.lafn.org/politics/gvdc/Natl_Debt_Chart.html
I just watched John Engler do the same thing to the State of MI, so multiply the tragedies in Michigan's economy by 52. Folks just don't have a grasp how Federal policies kill some state's economy. Our Governor is doing her best, but she just can't get any help from Washington.
I laugh at all the no-nuthins that think this Bush Crisis has no merit. Look at the National Debt and just try to wrap your mind around 5 consecutive years of increased debt.
Time for our Congress to outsource GWB's job!!

he is doing a great jog at destroying our country. we have started two wars so far, just wait a third is possibly on the way. he has signed a pact with mexico and canada that starts the ball rolling on our own north american union. much like in europe when the people didn't know what was going on till it hit them. don't belive it's going on listen to lou dobbs goto spp.gov goto inforwars.com so many places. we went from the most loved nation to the bottom in just 7 years. the laws have been passed to set up martial law any time the president see fit. torture is leagle and we no longer honor the gevena convention. check out hr. 6166 bill and read it your self, allso the johnwarner act of 2007 to name a few. no stop of allowing illeagle aliens into our country. of course this goes back to the point i made eariler. bush under fema has set up camps across this country to detain people. right now many are open and have people in them. the press has reported on it showing now illeagle aliens in them. the president has done nothing but lied to the american people over and over again. so i would say he has done a great job in what he was trying to do. and given the chance he will continue to do a wonderful job. then in 08 when a new one comes in they will pick up and continue to stay the course. it doesn't matter who it is. bush sr lost to clintion on purpose and bush jr is just following what his dad did and then clinton.

Well , to start, I want to say "if you listen to Bush. his hearts in the right place" but on the other hand I think if he would look more in depth to the long term results of the choices he makes, he might make some citizens lives a little more comfortable. But we all know the politicians have to be tended to first..
Second PEOPLE PLEASE STOP PUTTING DOWN BUSH
HE DOES LOVE AND CARE FOR OUR COUNTRY.
If you all would open your eyes, you may see that. Stop believing everything you hear out of Rush's mouth. And stop making judgment from newspaper articles, listen to him and you might see his love for you .NOW Bush has had some bad publicity but if you believe this you will never like him. DONT HATE BUSH , HATE THE ONES WHO STOPPED BUSH SR. IN 1991. Come on people. Bush Sr was stopped, we had a clear head shot and we couldn't take it, we were not allowed. now that should say say something about you bleeding heart jerks. Lets put the blame on you instead of trying to come up with some stupid theory to why its Bush's fault. one more thing if another person compares Bush to LBJ agian I'm going to pop them in the mouth. LBJ was nothing like Bush. Bush has a good head on his shoulders. LBJ was a joke.

Yes, Republicans are all about cutting wastefull spending on government social problems and decreasing the size of government overall. Look at Iraq, thanks to Republicans they don't even have a government anymore. I imagine they pay very little in taxes now.
