Ok, I was on birth control when I lived in Florida but I moved about a year ago and ran out of my pills about half way in the year. I don't have insurance but I want to get back on the pills ( I didn't try any of the other things). What should I do to get back on them. Is there any way to get it free? Or should I just see if I have any of my old empty packs and go to the health department and get a new prescription or if they can give me something cheaper?

Or if you have any other suggestions I'm open to it.

in some states the local health departments have a scale where they figure your income and deduct the cost of living to figure out if you can get free or next to nothing prescriptions on all of your meds. it is worth checking out .
good luck

You'll need a doc's exam to get an Rx so go to the health department and get the exam...if they won't give you the pills then pay for them out of pocket (I don't know how much the price may have changed but they were like $20/pack when I took them a decade ago). In my opinion, they are worth the price and I'd gladly do without other niceties to make sure I had my b/c.

My insurance hasn't covered my b/c in years...so although my pelvic exams are covered, I pay for my depo shots myself.

Like the others have said there are lots of resources for free/cheap birth control. Planned Parenthood, Student Health Centers, County Health Depts., etc. You will probably have to get a gyno exam in order to get the prescription, but the above places should offer those services too.

Hey Shannon,

I actually just experienced a similar problem. I just went into my local Planned Parenthood (the clinic was actually called Family First) and they ask if you work or how much money you make. If you qualify, they will give you free birth control, condoms, etc. :)

Hope this helps, its really awesome to get free stuff! lol

Many states have Planned Parenthood offices in the larger cities. Many of them will give birth control at a reduced rate or for free, depending on where you are.

try going to the health dept. thats going to be your best bet because without insurance, it'll cost you an arm and a leg. when i was on it, it cost me 40 bucks a month, WITH insurance.
