What is the story in the play/musical "Wicked"?

I know most of the songs but don't know the story line, can you sum it up for me?

Wicked is about how the two witches of Oz know each other. The musical is entirely different, and lighter, than the book. In the musical, the two witches are forced to be roommates at school. They initially hate each other, but grow to become best friends. They go to meet the Wizard, but they find out he's not who they thought he was. Elphaba (the Wicked Witch) turns against the wizard because of what he's doing to Animals.

The second act is about what the girls become - Galinda becomes Glinda the good and Elphie the "Wicked" witch. There's a sub plot about them liking the same guy and about who he ends up choosing, but I won't give that away. AND you find out why Elphaba is so powerful.

The plot kinda sounds dumb just reading it (I thought so, too at first), but it is really a magical experience. I would recommed it for anyone! The story is about these two women growing up and the real depths of their friendship.

It's basically the story behind the wicked witch, who isn't so wicked after all. Things aren't always what they seem, and perception from different sides of the story changes things.

I highly recommend reading the book, Wicked, by Gregory McGuire if you want to know the story. It's a great read.

It is about Galinda the Good and Elphaba (wicked witch) and how they met in shiz and how they got to be where they were in the wizard of oz.
Elphaba is green.
Galinda is popular and bubbly.
Nessarose is Elphaba's crippled sister, she has no arms in the book but cant use her legs in the musical.
Boq marries Nessa even tho he is in love with Galinda.
Fiyero is in love with Elphaba and engaged to Galinda.
Wizard is not all that wonderfull.

Fiyero dies, Galinda lives, Nessa Dies, Elphie Dies, Boq... actually I aint sure about boq.

The book is good, but friends told me not to read it before seeing the show. They said "Its as if they shook the book until a plot fell out".
