In the future, I would love to own my own bar. Has anyone done this in Michigan, and what were the steps involved? How much were the costs? Did you write a business plan? Did you need to hire a lawyer? Is it worth it? Is it possible?

I live in Wayne county but I helped my Uncle open his bar Wooden Keg in Genessee County. I own and operate a business loan, equipment leasing, and credit card processing business so he had asked me what steps I had taken. Since our business varied greatly I told him he needed to check into the various licenses he would need first, which he did and had those renewed since he was buying an existing business a lot of the needed leg work for licensing was done. He has been knocking down crazy amounts of cash, I have heard. I would say yes, it is very worth while. Also he is by an automotive plant which comprises a lot of his business so in the right location your success is guaranteed.

The answers, for most of your questions, are yes. Is it worth it? Maybe.

You have to get a liquor license from the state, as well as a space that is approved for the sale of liquor. Start-up costs can be high, but you may be eligible for grants and/or loans.

For more info, contact the Small Business Administration, as well as the State.

I don't know to much about it but you need to obtain a liqour license. That is the hard part b/c there are only a limited number of them issued per state. Meaning you will have to buy one from another bar owner.

I would go for it if you have the funds and backing. I live in Chicago and there are many of them. When I lived in NW Indiana there was a couple and sometimes they were so crowded that people could not get in or have to wait.
