Benadryl never did much for me. My doctor prescribed Remeron and it works really well. It certainly isn't addictive -- you don't even feel like you've taken anything, you just get a good night's sleep. The only thing I've noticed is I remember my dreams more. The thing with Benadryl is that you may build a tolerance, and it also leaves you feeling a bit sleepy, but that's just me, it might be fine for you. Teas and herbs are too mild to make a difference with me.

I've suffered from insomnia for several years. I have taken everything possible otc to help me sleep. Tylenol PM, Goody's PM, Nyquil, Benadryl, Unisom....
They all work fairly well for a while, but not permanently. If this is a very serious problem & lifestyle changes such as exercise & cutting out caffeine doesn't help you may want to talk to your doctor about a prescription sleeping pill like Ambien.
It could be because of anxiety & a mild anxiety med may help.

Try; Tea. Warm milk. Just lay there and put the T.V. on sleep mode. So long as you just lay there mindlessly it's almost as good as sleeping. Workout during the day. Ahem* get off B4 nap time. Change your sheets (clean sheets are just cozier). Turn down the Temp. Turn up the temp. Work a physical labourous job all you'll wanna do is sleep. Remember, there's always tomorrow you don't have to stay up 3 nights in a row to get ahead in life or find more time to yourself.....Breath.

I have tried a lot of herbs and nothing works as good and as fast as Benadryl.....so I would keep doing that, but just in small amounts, never take more than 1,000 mg of Benadryl, because large amounts can be toxic for the liver.

I take Clonidine and it works well....but I also take 1 advil pm as well.

I would defintely be thinking long term with benadryl, your liver must be taking a beating....have you tried just plain melatonin? I would recommend exercise, less caffiene if any and I would not allow myself to sleep at all during the day time ( you dont want to reverse your sleep wake cycle) ..I would also recommend getting tested for sleep apnea, alot of people have difficulty sleeping and that can sometimes be the problem which is treatable with CPAP therapy..

I would reccomend some other form, like warm milk with honey before going to bed. Don't become dependent on allergy medication. Look up online some safe home remedies. Also, getting to the source of WHY you can't sleep at night might help!

Eat a banana and drink warm milk. They both have natural chemicals in them that induce sleep. Don't listen to your doctor anymore they are reps for drug companies.Stay away from sleeping pills they are addicting.

Don't try to remedy your sleep problem by using medications, popping pills, etc. fix the problem by solving the issue as to why you can't sleep.
