a friend of my dad thats good w/ computers said that skype was bad for your computer, and it was illegal. is that true?. please elaborate

thanks for telling me its not illegal but some of you said that it can be harmful if i use it wrong, what do you mean?

Skype is totally legal but if you use it wrong it can be harmful. Like any IM you could give out all of your information. So be careful and don't answer back to anyone that skypes you if you do not know them. But Skype has taken care of a lot of problems and now you can block people you do not know or have a virus check every few hours. I have a skype acount and other that a few losers trying to talk to me (I just block them) I have had no problem with it, what so ever.

It is banned in some places around the world - like China. But, for the most part, no its not illegal. It is bad for your computer if you do not properly use it. There are technical things you must do in order to secure your call, otherwise, you are sending voice data unsecured over a peer-to-peer network --- which is breeding ground for hackers. So, if you are just going to install and use without caution - then yes, its not good for your computer, but if you do it right, you can speak freely to many people around the world.

What reasons did the friend of your dads give when he made the statement that skype is bad and illegal. We can then check to see if those statements have any legal credibility.

That's not true. Skype is a prefectly legal and legit program. If you look at some of the Logitech brand products, they say "Skype Compatible" or "Skype Approved".

I say the same as what everyone else said. I use it all the time! It's fun and legal, and as far as I know it's not bad for your computer. My computer is perfectly fine and I use Skype.
