Ok, so I'm watching the all star game and Vince Carter was just interviewed. He was talking about getting to know other players and he also mentioned something about trying to win $35,000.

So, am I right when I think they (the winning team) gets $35,000? I know they win $$ during the festivities before the actual game. I would assume that every player gets paid. But do they get to keep the whole stash, or do they have to donate it? I would also think they do donate it voluntarily considering it's change to them.

Winner of dunk challenge got $35,000. 2nd $22,500 and 3rd and 4th got $16,125.

That's why Tyrus commented he gets 16K regardless and got fined 10K for it.

So he only made $6,125

The winners get paid for the all star game and so do the losers. Some give it to their charies and some use it for themsleves as it is their money and some are still on rookie contracts.

They get paid to play in the NBA and this is another game and they are taking a pay cut to be here for the game.

They do get money, it's supposed to make it a competitive game. Unfortunately, it isn't so competitive. Players just want the additional hype of All-Star MVP to further their endorsement capability. When Bird and Magic were there, players were honored to play and they played hard to prove they were meant to be there. That no longer exists and the money seems to not really matter. I don't think the money gets donated, they just play like they don't need any more: the primadonna syndrome.

I know that the winners of the skills competitions (i.e. Slam dunk, 3-point, etc) get paid a couple thousand. That is why Tyrus Thomas said he wanted to do the Slam dunk contest to "pick up his free money".
