World War I and Singapore, hmm. Most of what I see about Singapore was in WWII. There was some note about a WWI German military unit mutiny near Singapore. There was notes of Japan wanting to capture a German port in China that they called the German Singapore. After WWI, England improved the docks for their navy maintenance programs. Then too, they put some really, really big guns in to protect their port investment. (In WWII, Japan would not tempt those guns, so the Japanese invaded by land BEHIND the city.) Sorry, I only saw it as a staging point, like many around the world, for things beyond.

In my studies of WW I, I have never seen a reference to Singapore nor the impact of the war there. This is not a connection often pointed out,. Sorry.
