click on start>run and type in msconfig. under the startup tab, you can select which programs you want to start at startup, this will cut down on startup time

You need disables unused startup programs and for other select when the programs to be launched.
I use the program "Chameleon Startup Manager" for it.
You can find it here:
http://www.neosoft-tools.com/windows-startup-manager.htm
It disables any startup programs and fully controls startup by selecting the programs to be launched, while customizing the startup settings (ie how often and when programs should be launched, etc).

run as little as possible at start-up. Take anything you don't 'HAVE' to run at start-up off and your computer will run much faster at start-up.
