Also in Texas. Deregulated area & am paying over 15cents a kilowat. Need a 'hybrid' house! Talk to your electric provider - they should give you a free energy audit. Used to be a meter tech and it is one a million meter that lies. I feel your pain!

I live in NE Texas, built my own home, and my electric bill last month was about $50. Including my gas bill at $100, my total bill was $150.00 for a 1716 s.f. living area home. I insulated the home very well and keep the thermostat at 70 degrees in the winter and primarily heat the house with a gas fireplace with the central unit's fan running to circulate and distribute the warm air throughout the house.

$$enough to put a tear in my beer...
It's highway robbery. We only have 1 electric company, it's not like we can comparison shop or switch to someone else.
Mine was $360.00 last month. (in florida)
I have a small 2 bedroom1 bath.

WOW! How large of a house are you in? Mine was $350 in CA and I called about that. They do make mistakes so it is best to call them. Good luck!
