While my Dad was in a nursing home I found out that there were a number of issues that bothered me.
Not enough employees for the number of people there.
Being left alone for hours at a time with nothing to do.
Lack of mental and physical stimulation
Inadequate physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy
Employees who are unable to pick up patients
Hard beds
Food. Too bland. Too fatty. Too unhealthy.
Being treated like a child and not an adult
Being ignored
No facilities for haircuts, styles, makeup.
Clothing.....
Baths only 2 to 3 times a week.
That is a start.

Many of them have no healthcare at all, and that is definitely a concern. Health issues differ among the elderly. I am 43 and have no dental insurance, a great concern to me. Also on the rise as we age: arthritis, heart disease, diabetes, general health - seeing, hearing, etc. This answer is based on observation rather than study.

you can talk about all the abuse they will suffer by nursing home staff when they are to old to defend themselves, or speak up and their families have left them to rot, you can talk about how the nurses won't feed them , or wait till they are NOT breathing before they call 911, or how the staff will leave them siting in their own crap for hours, you could talk about how even though the nursing home nurses get the same training all nurses get, most of them are too stupid to use it, and don't even know how to do CPR.
