1.) When do people consider it out of control? Is it where the cuts are, or how deep? Or the frequency of cutting?
2.) Do they have treatment programs just for cutting, or is it under an umbrella of treatment?

1. The cuts are normally not deep because contrary to what brad said people cut themselves regularly NOT to kill themselves but as a way to relieve the emotional pain, to substitute it with its physical equivalent. That is why cutting is done secretively, almost like a ritual. Cuts are done at the part of the body which is not noticeable - NOT wrists. Most likely on the inner tights. The more frequent one does it the more serious the condition is. It is like an addiction. One gets dependent on relieving emotional pain this way.

2. A good psychotherapist will have something of a plan but like with so many disorders will start working on the underlying issues.

There is a book called "Cutting" (I forgot the author). It is quite good and very detailed.

It is a disorder and it is not the fault of a person afflicted by it that he or she is cutting himself. It can be treated and controlled.

ok.. i have answers to both of your questions that i hope you find useful... but first i think i should tell you a little about myself. i have never cut myself, but i have a lot of friends that have. i am not a psychologist or anything, but i have been told to be a good friend. i am not sure if it is you that is the one cutting.. but that is what i am going to direct it as.. that way it will be a lot easier to interpret.

1) I think that the severity of the situation of cutting should always be considered serious. if you have done it, or even thought about it, you should seek help from a friend or a relative or someone that you trust. i know this may seem like old time news and all.. but it really could save your or someone elses life. the time that it becomes out of control i would say when it started. when a person feels that they have to result to cutting, or harming themselves to seek happiness, that is when they need help. its ok to want or need help. no one os perfect, and even though it may not seem like it sometimes, people do love you and care for you very much. so the answer to your first question is that cutting is out of control right from the beginning. you shouldnt let it get so bad that it is so deep that you cut a vein or an artery and die. or even if you may do it once a month or once a day, the truth is, you shouldnt have to cut yourself to heal pain.

2) from my prospective, they might have programs just for cutting, but for this i am not positive. but what i do know for sure is that you can always go to someone for help. like a therapist or possibly talk to your parents if possible. going to treatment programs is an excellent idea. but if there is not one near you or you are not able to go to one, then the next great alternative would be to talk to someone.

i really hope this helped. good luck. dont ever give up. ill pray for you!! =) 0=)

Any cutting at all is out of control. Both where they are and how deep aren't as big the issue as whether it's across the wrist or down. People cut down when they want to die and across when they don't but they're depressed. Treatment includes therapy (not a bad choice).

I consider cutting out of control when u start thinking about wanting to do it. Anything that causes physical harm to your body isn't normal. I don't no if they have specific treatments for it. But I think it would be the same type of treatment for depression.
