Often people get to a point where they are okay living on their own but they need help with certain things. Most assisted living centers have medical staff that are there to help them set their medications up for the week. It can be confusing when they have many different pills at 4-5 different times of the day and some older people are loosing mental capacity but not enough to be a serious danger to themselves or others. They may also have balance problems due to stroke or medications and the staff is there to help in case they take a fall and break something. There are lots of reasons for going to an assisted living center. Sometimes it gives them a new lease on life as they are able to participate in community things that they were not able to go to living on their own. They have friends and social things to do then.

An assisted living facility gives older more functional adults the safe environment they need with indepence & dignity. These people are checked on and staff also make sure they are eating/continuing with any needed medications. They also shuttle them to their doctors appointments - and to the grocery store, ect.

The "problems" that put them there is the natural aging process that makes things younger adults take for granted - mowing the lawn, taking out the trash, ect The senior may also have experienced a health crisis that has not debilitated them, but just slowed them down.

Families are so busy and as much as they try, they cannot always give seniors the time they need.

Um... they begin to lose their memory (go senile) at a certain age... they are fragile and fall a lot, sometimes they become wheelchair bound and can't get around...

Usually their family members put them in an assisted living center because they can't take care of themselves alone anymore.
