I want to buy a used laptop on ebay, i don't know alot about computers, what would you say would be the minumum requirements (well maybe not the absolute minimum) to have a good functioning computer that will be able to handle advancements over the next 2-3 year period?

Processor : Intel Pentium M, AMD Turion, Athlon 64 Mobile
RAM: 1 GB (can be upgraded)
Hard Disk: 40 GB
Video (for vista only): non Integrated.
These are minimums for the next few years. For now, a PIII will work and be cheaper, but not for long.

Check out a new one first, they are getting cheaper all the time.
