ok, if i seriously devote myself to it, how long in your guys opinion would it take to get really good at electric guitar? ive got alot of natural talent but havent learned an instrument before. i realize that precise answers without knowing me are unrealistic but ball park figures are what i want. the styles im trying to learn are blues, jazz and rock. oh, and some country just to round me out.

well I think it is awesome that you are keeping your options open
and wanting to learn so many styles , I think that in its self is one of the steps to becoming a good guitarist. You are right about its hard to say how long , but in my opinion and from what i have seen , If you totally dedicate yourself and i am talking like hours a day you could be as good as you wanted to be in 8 months or so , I have seen it happen with one of the kids I was teaching , he decided to just teach himself and he got better than me in that amount of time because he loved it so much , and I have been playing for 5 years. So good luck! , Practice all the time but have fun with it!

It's all in how bad you want it and how willing you are to learn. Here's one hint though: Just because you see guys on tv that are really goo even when they are drunk/high doesn't mean it's easy. Those guys started at an extremely young age and that's all they have ever done; to the point of living in cars instead of working so they could play guitar.

If you think you're gonna pick it up in a few weeks and rock out, you're wrong and will not last more than 3 months. If you go at it with the idea that you will play it and get better, you will do alright.

Don't go after all those styles all at once, stick to the one you love and go from there; otherwise you'll get very confused.

All in all? Give it 5 years. Two years to get the basics down, two years to work on theory, and one year to put it together. If you take lessons from a GOOD teacher who has all this stuff down (not joe blow the weekend George Lynch wannabe), you may shorten that up a good bit.

It depends on your free time or time you devote to learning guitar.

I'd say for a normal person around 6 months to get good, between a year and a half and 2 years to get really good and go for some tough lead parts. But if you really want to go all-out then you may want to consider 5-7 years.

And if you've been pursuaded to take up guitar from one of the Guitar Hero games then you can triple those numbers I said before, that game has to be the worst influence on beginners now and esstially brainwashes them.
