Partly desire to be #24 again, partly desire to leave all the luggage behind that he accumulated whilst wearing #8, and partly financial.

And as far as being a "looser", I'd have to declare that anyone who comes onto an international discussion forum & mis-spells "loser" to be one himself. I'm sure Kobe's laughing all the way to the bank. We all wish to be as successful in life as he is...

yea 24 was his HS number but the real reason is money. the media aint gonna say it so i will. changing his # will cause more people to buy his new jersey which results in kobe pocketing more money.

He had a disagreement with nike, and they were gonna push #8 shoes (a.k.a. kobe), and this pissed off kobe (i dont know why), so he switched his jersey to get back at nike
