How badly does a tattoo hurt? When you get it and afterwards. I really want to get one on my lower back.

i have about 13 tattoos all meaningful by the way and i have found that there is no set amount of pain for each location... its your brain telling you "hey this hurts.. cry" but out of all the locations i have (ribs, both hips, both ankles and down the spin including lower back) it does hurt but if you prepare your self well enough there is that chance that it might not hurt as much as you thought it was.. so my advise to you is think of the worst pain you ever felt and times that by say 3 and go into the parlor with that thought in mind and it wont hurt as much as you thought when you first waled through the doors

I had a tattoo of a cross put onto my shoulder blade and it didn't hurt alot at all, after five minutes it went numb and i didn't feel it and i did not even bleed afterwards. I rubbed the a&d ointment on it like the guy told me at the shop and everything was fine with it within a couple of days. I got it when i was 19 now i am 27 and the colors are still the same. They have not faded at all.
It is not as bad as some people make it out to be.

it depends on where the tattoo is going to be, the lower back generally hurts alot cause that where all the nerve endings are.
some people describe getting a tattoo as being repeatedly burned with a cigerette. but i think the pain differs from person to person. i got a small star on my hand and i didnt think it hurt at all, but thats just me
oh and afterwards it will itch alot in the healing process...so beware whatever you do dont pick at it

It hurts, but not terrible bad.

The part that hurt me most was when they did the outlining. Feels kind of like a knife cutting into your skin. The filling in just feels like your skin is being scraped by sandpaper. But the pain fades within an hour or so after the tattooing is done. And it's not even bad enough to make you go OW.

depends on where you get it. when you get it in an area with more bone, it hurts more. the lower back being one of those places. everyone has a different pain tolerance though. personally none of mine bothered me.. i talked on the phone and read books while i had them done. afterwards they feel like a sunburn. that's the closest thing i know to that feeling. takes a few days for it to stop burning like that and about another week for it to heal completely for most people.

well if your one for pain no but if thats not your thing then yes it does. it is known to be said that you wont feel anything sharp that pentrates the skin but this is slightly different. its not like getting a shot the neddle is being dragged across the skin repeatly. but once you get used to it it shouldnt bother you but it doesnt hurt afterwards only when you get it. getting it is the hard part the having it is the easy part. so good luck with that.

It depends on how well you tolerate pain, I have 2 on my back, and neither hurt, but when I got the ones on my wrist and foot I thought I was gonna die

it all depends it only hurts in bony areas cause it will drill into bone so iif ur back is boney I duggest anothe rplace but if you have some meat (doesn't mean u have to be fat) on ur lower back than it shouldn't hurt... that much
