Guys, I just read that 70% of black women in the US are unmarried, why?

Question

Why don't black men marry black women? Is it a problem with not wanting responsibility? Culture? Do a lot of black men just not value family?
What's going on?

not race baiting. Just had brunch this morning with some of my black girlfriends (they are educated, responsible and sweet) and couldn't get over how hard it is for them.

Wow, judging from all your responses, it's because people can't get past stereotypes. The girls I had brunch with this morning were a doctor, special ed teacher and management person for a computer company. They're in great shape, wear feminine clothes and they go to church too!

I just accidently stumbled onto this blog, but after reading the question and the answers given, it's been made clear that the current popular sterotypes and images of black women (regardless of accuracy) on the minds of most Americans are just too negative for most to bring to mind all the romantic notions associated with love and marriage. I think it's too simple to say black women are unattractive and/or poor and on wellfare, because if that were the reason, we should see black women who are beautiful and successful with husbands and boyfriends. Looking at statistics, and just looking around on the street, regardless of attractiveness, slimness, or wealth, black women are predominantly single (unmarried/partnerless). I believe there are many factors, but because most of the opinions given by so many on this blog relect negative images and negative sterotypes, I would conclude that these factors play a very large role. While there are, of course, unattractive black women on wellfare, there are also attractive successful black women who still are affected by this low marriage statistic. Not sure why the successful attractive women spoken of in the original question are thrown into the unattractive, black wellfare mother stereoptype. I don't know why black, white, asian or whatever men would be unwilling to date/marry them. Maybe it's just not popular to be with a black woman. It's not cool. Maybe it's just that simple. A black woman isn't chic/trendy. I don't know.

Your question does not make any sense. Really it shouldn't matter if a black man wants a black women. It's all about who is compatible. Responsibility depends on the man. If he's not strong willed then your marrying a punk. No woman wants a punk for a husband!

Black women in general love security. We need to know that our significant other is capable of running the house, protecting the family and being a provider. Whether the man is black, white, red or purple he must fulfill those requirements.

I am white and married to a black woman. I have basically dated only black women for the last 15 years. Also, the truth is, alot of black women themselves do not want commitment. I mean I bet I went out with at least 30 or 40 women who did not want a relationship. They just wanted to have fun and kick it or even just have casual sex and had no interest in a serious relationship.So I think its a combination of women not wanting a relationship and as one comment said, even if they do, alot of men don't. Its really a complicated issue.

I can't believe this.You say you have Black Girlfriends,Don't paste and print your answers,I don't think they will like the answers.If 70% is not married to black men then guess what? Who are they marrying?Because I know more than 70% is with somebody.Most Blacks are able to pick and choose.It's not in our culture to marry the 1st person who ask.

looks like your girlfriends are reliable, proud, confident, autonomous and not keen to settle (a minimum of i'm hoping so)! Any black guy with the comparable traits will welcome the possibility to get to comprehend them. As for the others, sounds like it would incredibly be their loss! tell them to no longer provide up the combat. existence is in basic terms too short to settle for much less.

Desperado got it right.When you have several kids to claim at tax time it makes the income tax check look good also.Look at many of them and you will see the other reasons why nobody wants to marry them.
