I've noticed that a lot of sellers don't do this, even when the buyer is requesting it. Why is that? I'm guessing that it's got something to do with an unforseeable circumstance where it'll come back to bite the seller in the butt, but I really can't think of a scenario.

Theyre just lazy.

and alot of reputable sellers ship many items a day or even hundreds a week....they probably dont have the time or resources to send out shipment emails.

I agree...would be nice.

Some of the time, it is due to that or lack of effort. Other times it's due to the item being sent as a drop shipment from somewhere else.

Couldn't tell you...(refuse to use eBay)

But if you have insured the package, the tracking number can help there.

As for why they don't like passing-on the send date...they could be delaying because they don't have (the item), can't be bothered, etc. Laziness comes in many forms, as does social unacceptable behaviour...aka, rudeness. ;)

None of my seller let me know, but I always email them to let them know my money orders are on the way, ( I don't like using my credit card on line.)
