I do not the exact state but I do know the region with the highest income taxes are = the northeast.

Plus you have to take into accounts some states don't have federal income states like Texas for example. It all depends on what tax you are referring to... sales tax, state income tax, fed. income tax, gas tax, luxury item tax, etc....

Take a look at this site that examines taxes state by state and it might help you find what you are looking for.

New York has high income taxes that are some of the highest in the nation; In addition to that, they have a high state sales tax, as well as a New York City sales tax. They have high liquor and cigarette taxes, and property taxes.

Of the 10 counties in the nation with the highest property taxes, all are in the New York metro area or across the river in New Jersey - but not the city itself, a new study based on U.S. Census Bureau data revealed yesterday.

At the top of the nation's property tax heap is leafy Westchester County, followed by Long Island's Nassau County in the No. 2 spot and tony Hunterdon, Bergen and Essex counties in New Jersey rounding out the top five.

Well, depends on what you mean by 'most taxed'. If you mean the highest rate (percentage), surprisingly, according to this CNN article, Maine has the highest state tax rate.

One must note that some cities have a city income tax as well, so residents of New York City, for example, may actually pay a higher rate, if you add in their city tax as well as their state tax. Sales tax may be another factor to consider.

If by 'most taxed' you mean the largest amount of money that the state collects from its residents, it is California, according to this article:

It used to be a virtual three way tie between New Jersey, Connecticutt and Massachusettes, but California is tax crazy. Their hidden system of fees and surcharges edges them over the top.

Maine.
Per Capita Tax is 13%

California is number 1 in total tax collected - but they have a much larger population. Their actual rate is 10.3%.
