IT DEPENDS.... SOME PEOPLE LOOOVE DOGS, AND SOME LOOVE CATS.
I PERSONALLY, LOOOVE DOGS! YOU CAN TEACH THEM ALL SORTS OF TRICKS. MY DOG KNOWS:

1. SIT
2. DOWN
3. STAY
4. COME HERE
5. SHAKE
6. SPEAK
7. DANCE (HE JUMPS IN A CIRCLE ON HIS HIND LEGS)
8. ROLL OVER
9. STOP
10. KISS

YOU CAN ALSO WALK YOUR DOG AND OTHER FUN STUFF LIKE PLAY FETCH WITH THEM OR TUG-A-WAR.
THEY'RE ALWAYS HAPPY TO SEE YOU WHEN YOU GET HOME AND ARE ALWAYS READY WHEN YOU WANT TO PLAY WITH HIM OR HER. SOME SHED AND SOME DON'T SO YOU CAN CONTROL THAT. YOU CAN ALSO TAKE DOGS OUT TO RESTAURANTS AND PARKS. YOU CAN PUT YOUR DOG IN A DOG SHOW, MAKE HIM A RESCUE DOG, OR EVEN TRAIN HIM TO LEAD BLIND PEOPLE!

CATS ON THE OTHER HAND, ARE USUALLY MEAN (I USED TO HAVE TWO CATS). THEY ALWAYS HISS AT YOU AND OTHER STUFF. THEY NEVER PLAY WITH YOU AND YOU CAN ONLY RUB THEM WHEN THEY WANT TO BE RUBBED. YOU CAN'T TEACH THEM TRICKS OR TAKE THEM FOR WALKS.

SO... YOU DECIDE WHICH IS BEST.

BUT IN MY OPINION... HORSES ARE THE BEST PETS! LOL

edit!!! CATS are easier to take care of then dogs. So true.. .even though i don't like to emit it.

It completely depends on your personality, lifestyle and expectations. Dogs are much more demanding than cats and can't be left alone for long periods of time. Cats are more independent and more self-sufficient. Dogs typically cost more for yearly veterinary visits, food, toys, etc.. than cats. Dogs are more interactive than cats and demand a lot of attention. Cats demand attention, but a few minutes of play and a half hour of petting will keep them satisified (in most cases).

I have a cat and a dog and love them both. They both greet me at the door when I come home. The dog goes everywhere with me and the cat cuddles with me at night. They balance each other out. Do your homework and research each animal. Remember, it's a lifetime committment and if you can, adopt a homeless animal from a shelter!

Best of luck!

You need to pick the one that's right for you (if you want both, that's good too!) but you need to get this straight: THEY ARE NOT THE SAME! you should go to your local animal shelter and ask to handle different kinds of dogs and cats, decide whats right for you. But i advise against getting an animal the first day you go, go a few times, just to look, read some animal books, then go to look for a life long companion, remember, you wouldn't adopt a kid in 1 day!
( i personally like dogs better, but cats are definitely a close second!)

I have had both and i love my dog. He is a pain in the but, he makes messes the cat never made, he eats a lot more food, he irritates me more than I can tell you and for the first four months I wanted to ship him to the dog pound at times. However, I LOVE this dog. He is so lovable, kind, sweet and fun. He is snuggly he loves me. Cats are OK but they make you work for their affection and they smell up a house no matter how often you change the litter of buy the expensive brands. My cat always snubbed me.

Any answer you are going to get here will be purely subjective.
Cats are little trouble, don't require training (beyond litter box) just feed them give them toys and affection every once in a while and they are pretty happy.
Dogs require training, knowledge, attention, walks/excercise...dogs do however provide comfort, company, always love any attention you provide, bark when there are intruders...I think it truly depends on what you are looking for work/time wise..
I personally have and love both dogs and cats...(not to mention a bunny horses and a mule) :-)
THey each are wonderful in their own way..and work in their own way..although the cats are the least work.

It depends on what you are looking for in a pet. A dog is great if you have a lot of time to devote to spending time with it. Dogs need your companionship and attention..
Cats on the other hand can pretty much take care of themselves. Unless you get a long haired breed you need to groom you just need to make sure they have food and water and love them.

Well....I personally like dogs, mainly because they are really energetic. But...if you have to go away for a few days you can just lay cat food out for a cat and it wont eat it all at once. On the other hand a dog will eat all the food at once.

I like cats for their lack of major work :) Feed them, pet them, and clean the litterbox. I like dogs for their bond to humans, etc, but they are more work (having to take them out, can't leave them home as long by themselves, etc). Not very helpful but my thoughts on the matter :)

i think that they are both really cute but that cats are much easier to maintain but that dogs have more personnality and are much more fun to have around. with a dog you can teach them tricks and take them for walks but cats usually dont go for walks

Matters who you are. I love them both. I love dogs for their energy and cats for cuddling. I have 2 of each.
