Because they like throwing away Mars landers

It's called the price of arrogance, (I don't belive the american people are dumb, like most of the world does, just misguided)

Afghanistan
Iraq

I have taught many old dogs new tricks, they can learn, they just need to be taught carefuly and gently. The problem is they often don't belive they can.

The cost of switching to metric is a red hering, switching saves money by preventing silly mistakes like the mars lander. That's not to say it's easy, but it can be done, and in the long run is very benificial.

Canada is still in the process of switching, so I learned metric in school, and then had to learn to work in imperial when I entered the work force, now I use both, but when I get to chose it's almost always metric because I am less likely to make a mistake.

The US is not metric yet because it simply is too expensive to change to metric at this point. Machines and equipment are set up to operate in English units and corporations would rather convert if needed then spend the extra money to convert machines. There also is no compelling reason or driving force to go metric.

Because they taught us the US version when we were younger, grew up using it, and have the metric system very little in our every day lives.

People can't grow up using and learning one way, then 20-30 years later expect to just flip the switch and know something else. It becomes ingrained in our everyday lives. You just can't teach a old dog knew tricks.

We may learn the metric system and be able to use it when needed, but when given the choice we'll always fall back to the US version because that is whats familular to us.

Thats what where I think the problem may lie.

bucause the us is to stubborn,

a comment to everyone above who says it cant be done, the british did it in the 1990ies, and the french in the 1800dreds.

the swedish even switched over from driving on the left side of the road to the right side of the road near the 1950ies. OVERNIGHT.

if there was enough dedication even americans can.

Because the USA is still the big man on campus and people come up to our standard, not the other way around. Besides, who wants to be like the French?

Probably just because how much it would cost. I mean like speed signs, to switch all the speed signs over to Kilometers would cost a little bit.
